Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons: Black Berry Case Study

CBD for horses

Berry is a 14.00hh 22-year-old riding school cob showing signs of stiffness and with a mineralisation in annualar ligament of his right hind fetlock. He shows intermittent lameness which sometimes requires a course of Danilon and when severe needs veterinary intervention for stronger painkillers.

Being arthritic he is normally quite stiff in walk and trot until he gets warmed up and is also not very enthusiastic about working, often appearing depressed.

On 8th July 2023, a 20-day Cannabinoid trial was started.  1 syringe a day was administered directly into the mouth. The first 10 days showed no noticeable difference in his attitude, or mobility but the longer Berry was on the Cannabinoid the less stiff he became and the more enthusiastic he was about life.  By the end of the 20-day course on 28th July, Berry was more supple and walking more freely with a brighter attitude to life.  He became quite playful in the field voluntarily showing some sound trot and canter strides when interacting with the other ponies which is something he does not normally do.

At the moment, nearly six weeks since he finished the course of cannabinoid, he is still moving more freely than before and still has a brighter outlook on life”.

Ivan Carmago: Jarezzo Case Study

"We have used EquiCeutica CBD under Veterinary supervision. One of my principal competition horses, Jarezzo, suffered a severe tendon injury which threatened to prevent him from competing for 12 months. After a 30 day course, a strong recovery was observed and he returned to competion fitness within an astonishing 6 months. We have also observed positive results with several other international competition horses based at the Polo Club de St Tropez”.

Carmina: Sarcoid Treatment

Carmina. A six year old Andalusion filly with a Veterinary
diagnosis of ocular sarcoid. Treatment of an ocular sarcoid without histological diagnosis, referred to a leading Equine Hospital for surgical removal.
Based upon anecdotal evidence of sarcoid regression following topical application of CBD in equine, EquiCeutica liposomal nano-encapsulated CBD was administered both as a topical application and as a sublingual oral formulation for 7 days (50mg in 10ml daily).

The lesion was observed to spontaneously resolve within 10 days with no other treatment and to disappear within 30 days. There has been no recurrence.

Without the administration of EquiCeutica CBD, surgery would have taken place immediately. EquiCeutica is being given guidance by a leading “sarcoid” clinician with respect to the treatment and observation of patients with multiple sarcoids (minimum 5), one of which is histologically diagnosed and then 3 of the 5 treated with

topical application of EquiCeutica CBD.

Equine Case Studies

Case Study: Luca a 12 year old Vizsla. Weight 20kgs. August 2021. EquiCeutica Cannabinoid treatment:

Canine Case Studies

Veterinarians had recommended euthanasia. Luca was given 3 ml of EquiCeutica CBD administered sublingually and within 48 hours had shown signs of recovery. Within 30 days he had recovered full fitness and weight of 28 kg. Luca retained appetite, condition and full mobility until his death in December 2022 aged 14 years 8 months with daily 2-3 ml EquiCeutica CBD with no adverse reaction. It was noted that response time was 10-15 minutes.

Patient: Kovu Species: Canine Breed: Great Dane Age: 4
Sex: Male (S) Weight: 69 kg

Kovu was diagnosed with an eosinophilic granuloma on the dorsal aspect of the right metatarsus, presenting as a chronic ulcerative wound. Diagnosis was made with cytology and histopathology. The owners reported significant difficulty in managing the condition, as Kovu persistently found ways to bite or chew at the affected area. No systemic clinical signs were observed, apart from pronounced behavioral changes caused by intense pruritus. Previous treatments included surgical removal with a skin graft, which was unsuccessful because the patient chewed it off, as well as local and systemic corticosteroids, which led to undesirable long-term side effects. Various wound management approaches were attempted, but each ultimately failed due to the patient biting the wound, despite the owners’ efforts to use an Elizabethan collar and a muzzle. As a result EquiCeutica Liposomal-Encapsulated CBD was administered at 0.3 mg/kg once daily, combined with topical silver sulfadiazine and EquiCeutica Liposomal-Encapsulated CBD under bandaging. Currently, the wound has fully closed, though hair regrowth is still in progress. The pruritus has been effectively controlled, which has contributed to improved wound healing. Additionally, this approach has significantly reduced costs for the owners, as fewer bandage changes have been required."

After 20 days:

Patient: Capitu Species: Canine Breed:Great Dane Age: 10 Sex: Female (S) Weight: 51 kg

Capitu began showing signs of joint pain, lameness, and difficulty moving, particularly when trying to stand up. After a comprehensive general and orthopedic clinical examination, she was diagnosed with bilateral hip joint disease, with severe osteoarthritis, more pronounced on the right side. A pain and inflammation management protocol was initiated, consisting of firocoxib and dipyrone monohydrate. Fourteen days after the initial consultation, a follow-up evaluation was conducted, revealing only a limited response to the established protocol.

As a result, a treatment plan incorporating liposomal CBD was introduced. Capitu was initially administered 0.5 mg/kg twice daily for five days, followed by a maintenance dose of 0.3 mg/kg once daily for long-term management. Another follow-up was performed 14 days later, including a clinical examination and an owner questionnaire. The results indicated a 50% improvement in Capitu’s pain levels, with fewer pain-related signs and enhanced mobility. Although she had not yet returned to her previous level of comfort and mobility, she showed noticeable improvement, particularly in standing up and lying down, which she could now perform with greater ease."
